The Waitt Physiotherapy Practice is a small physiotherapy clinic based in the Braids area of Edinburgh. It was established in 2013 by Dawn Waitt who is a Chartered Physiotherapist (MCSP), registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). It is a musculoskeletal and sports injury clinic. Women’s pelvic, obstetric and gynaecological health consultation is also offered.
Dawn has 40 years’ experience as a Physiotherapist, most of which has been specialising in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy. She was the Superintendent for the Outpatient services at St John’s Hospital for 18 years developing and managing a wide range of outpatient services which included a sports medicine clinic. During this period, she was also a visiting lecturer for undergraduate students at Queen Margaret University and extensively lectured postgraduate physiotherapists and other healthcare practitioners.
Following this she spent 16 years as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner within Lothian NHS Primary Care services. These roles included the triage of GP referrals into Orthopaedics, assessing orthopaedic spinal patients and managing escalated patients within the community physiotherapy service. In these roles diagnostic and educational skills were developed, she was an injection therapist and a non-medical radiology referrer. She could refer into orthopaedic and other medical services when required.
Dawn has always had a strong work and learning ethic and progresses her continuous professional development in relation to her areas of competency. Her varied experience promotes patient assessment and treatment management as well as an understanding when there is a need to refer on for further investigations and medical management.
Socially, relevant experience to draw upon includes taking part in a wide variety of sports such as running, hiking (e.g. climbed all the Munros in Scotland), cycling, skiing and playing tennis. She has brought up 2 boys who were involved in additional sports such as rugby, football, hockey and ski racing.
